Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson said he felt "vindicated" after his second string thrashed Schalke to move into the Champions League final.
Ferguson admitted that he had a sleepless night over whether he had made the right decision to rest his stars ahead of the Premier League clash with Chelsea this weekend, but praised his men for making light work of the Germans.
"They did me proud," he told ITV1. "It was a semi-final and the fact it's such an important game does create a bit of doubt in your mind of 'Am I doing the right thing?' but I'm glad we were vindicated.
"It's fantastic for the club. We're where we want to be.
"I've said many times we should have done better in Europe over the years and I think this team can win the cup."
United will face Barcelona at Wembley on May 28, in a rematch of the 2009 final, which the Catalan side won 2-0.
Apart from one chance for Jefferson Farfan and Jurado's goal, Schalke never threatened but will take some comfort from the fact they still looked more convincing than last week.
"We have to admit we possibly could have gone out in earlier rounds... but we came to our level this evening," Schalke coach Rangnick said.
"The quality of the (United) players certainly stands out.
Berbatov, Anderson and (the) two central defenders - most Bundesliga sides would be happy to have that sort of quality in their teams."
